That Marlowe is the dead man is a foregone conclusion contained in the title. It was so sad to read her experiences as a child. On a tour, she hits her head on a tomb. Some people (like the publishers for example) have said that the heroine of SUMMER CROSSING, Grady McNeil, reminds them of Holly Golightly, that she's an early and inferior sketch for Holly Golightly, who charmed us all in Capote's later BREAKFAST AT TIFFANY'S. The difference here being that those guys were GOOD. I enjoyed it because it seemed to capture a world about which I knew little before: aristocratic and middle class Italian Jewish society before the second world war. They leave Iran and next travel to China.
